1.    Since 2016, the laboratory is called as Laboratory of Seismic and Geodynamics.

As of 2018 the laboratory’s personnel comprises: Head of Laboratory, Ph.D. Nurmatov U.A., Ph.D. SodikovYu.M., Ph.D. Usmonova M.T., Ph.D. Sodikov F.S., junior researcher UA Yusupdzhonov, laboratory assistant N. Khudoiberdieva, Ing. Adylov I.
2.    Laboratory History
At the time of establishment of the Institute, seismotectonic studies were carried out by the Laboratory of Seismotectonic Zoning, which was a part of the Earthquake Prediction Department. The head of the laboratory was Cand. Geol-Min. Science D. Kh. Yakubov. In July 1970, the “Laboratory of Seismotectonic Zoning” was changed its name to the Laboratory of Modern Movements of the Earth's Crust.  In May 1970, R.N. Ibragimov, employee of Laboratory of Seismotectonic Zoning, changed M. G. Gafurov as the Head of Laboratory “Variation of Geophysical Fields” (VGF). This change resulted in transferring of seismotectonic projects into the VGF laboratory, which was renamed as Laboratory “Variations of Geophysical Fields and Seismotectonics” in November 16, 1970 according to the Decree of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 75; while R.N. Ibragimov was appointed as the head of this laboratory.  In July 1, 1977, the new organisational structure of the Institute was approved by the Academy of Science of the Republic of Uzbekistan and related government authorities.  Following the restructuring, the Laboratory of Seismotectonics was established as a unit of Geological and Geophysical Methods Department headed by G.A. Mavlyanov while R.N. Ibragimov remained the head of the Laboratory of Seismotectonics and supervised its projects from 1971 to 1994.  From 1994 to the present, the laboratory has been headed by Nurmatov U.A, Ph.D. In 2015, the Laboratory of Seismotectonics was merged with the Laboratory of Geodynamics and renamed to Laboratory of Geodynamics and Seismotectonics. Since 2016, the laboratory is called as Laboratory of Seismic and Geodynamics.
3.    Scientific Fields of Study of the Laboratory:
-    Study of the causes, conditions for the formation and development of multi-scale tectonic structures of lithosphere and the earth's crust and assessment of probable sources of geodynamic processes;
-    Study of tectonic conditions and nature of the occurrence of strong earthquakes;
-    Development of geological, geophysical and tectonic bases for long-term forecasting of place and strength of possible earthquakes – mapping of seismogenic zones;
-    Development of seismotectonic foundations of multi-scale seismic zoning (SRF, DSR, SMR);
-    Evaluation of initial seismicity of the projected objects by a complex of geological and tectonic methods.
4.    Main Achievements of the Laboratory:
-    Identification of seismogenic (focal) zones of Uzbekistan and evaluation of their energy capabilities based on study of geological and tectonic features of the structure, manifestations of strong earthquakes on a scale of 1: 1,000,000 and 1: 500,000.
-    Development of geological and tectonic bases of OCP-78, OCP-1980, OCP-2002 and OCP-2011 maps of seismic microzoning for large cities of Uzbekistan. For active participation in compilation of map of Uzbekistan general seismic zoning (OSR-78), the head of laboratory, R.N. Ibragimov, together with co-authors, was awarded the State Prize named after. A.R. Beruni.
-    Development of OSR seismotectonic map of Uzbekistan in scale of1: 1,000,000.
-    Development of scientific basis and methodology for mapping detailed seismic zoning and the JEM map of Tashkent region at a scale of 1: 500,000.
-    Developed by the laboratory the map of seismogenic zones of Uzbekistan is used as seismotectonic basis in the assessment of initial seismicity and mapping of seismic microzoning of cities in Uzbekistan, as part of seismological expertise of construction.
-    Identified seismogenic zones of Uzbekistan are considered as spatial basis in compilation of the “Cadaster of High Seismic Hazard Zones”, which is part of the EGCC (Unified System of State Cadasters).
